Cocos nucifera (coconut oil) – rich in lauric acid which counteracts bacteria and fungi. Moisturizes and protects the foot pads. Certified organic COSMOS/Soil Association/Fairtrade.

Lavandula angustifolia (lavender oil) – anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and relieves pain. Certified organic COSMOS. 

Chamomilla recutita (chamomile) – anti-bacterial and healing properties. Certified organic COSMOS. 

Cannabis sativa (hemp seed oil) – cold pressed oil rich in omega 3 and 6 which strengthens the barrier protection of the foot pad. Low levels of THC. Certified organic COSMOS/Fairtrade/Ecocert. 

Mangifera indica (mango butter) – nutritious and moisturizing. Certified organic COSMOS/Ecocert. 

Sclerocarya birrea (marula seed oil) – moisturizing oil rich in antioxidants. Certified organic COSMOS/Fairtrade. 

Ideally, moisturize the foot pad with lukewarm water before applying the paw pin. For best results, do not let your dog lick the product off the foot pad immediately afterwards.

The pads of your four-legged friend have several important functions and taking care of them is very important for their overall well-being. 

Their role

They act as shock absorbers to protect your dog's bones and joints, create a barrier between internal parts and dangerous elements such as ice and hot asphalt, and are important for the dog's balance and mobility.

In addition, a dog's foot pads contain scent and sweat glands and are essential for marking out territory.

Considering the important role they play, it is important to take care of pads and paws and protect them from cracking and damage.

Usual issues paws face

Cracks: They can occur in your dog's foot pads for several reasons, depending largely on living conditions and the type of activity they entail into. Usually, paw cracks are a result of contact irritation, so paw checks after every walk are important. The earlier any issues are detected, the faster you can help your dog's paws recover.

Dryness: It can occur more often and easily than cracks, and unless detected early and action is taken to treat it, ti can escalate to cracks, which many also be painful for your dog.  

Seasonal tips

Summer – Duirng hot motnhs the paws of a dog or outdoor cat are often exposed to hot concrete, asphalt and excessive sweat, factors that can damage the pads. Dog shoes can help in these situations, but attention should be directed to dog care products (in addition to shoes in cases the dogs are comfortable using them).

Let your dog walk on the grass instead of the hot pavement whenever possible, and avoid walking during the hottest times of the day.

Winter – Ice, snow and salt can be a major risk to the pads. Just like human feet, paws exposed to the cold, can lead to cracking.

When it comes to prevention, investing in dog shoes and/ or paw products is very important.

You can also keep the fur between the tread pads fairly short to reduce the risk of snow and dirt getting stuck, increasing the propability of ending  up with injured or highly sensitive paws.
